Open For Business
(1975) Business commenced operations in Ipswich Qld following the 1974 floods which left over 13,000 buildings affected and an estimated A$980 million in damages.

Our first major project servicing the Australian power industry; replacing a super heater at the Bulimba power station in Brisbane. From that time Sun Engineering has worked on many major power projects in Australia and Papua New Guinea, most recently the Diamantina power station in Mt Isa which is a 240 Mega Wat gas fired power station.

We won our first marine based project demolishing the Lucinda Wharf in Queensland which after its reconstruction was named the largest bulk sugar loading facility in the world.

As the Business was growing in size we moved to a new Facility in Carole Park, at the time it was one of the largest facilities of its kind. Since that time Sun Engineering has renovated the site adding a two story office Building and full bitumen around the facility.

Sun Engineering was incorporated in to its current legal form in 1993, also in that year we were contracted to fabricate and deliver 800t of air ducting for the Stanwell Power Station, which is a 1,500 MW coal fired power station in Central Queensland. At the time of construction it was one of the largest industrial developments undertaken in Queensland.

In 1996 we were contracted to fabricate the 119 meter high iconic Tower of Terror at Dream World on the Gold Coast. It was the first roller coaster in the world to reach 160.9 kilometers per hour speeds making it the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world at the time. It is currently in the top 10 tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

Sun Engineering in 2002 were awarded the contract for the demolition of the old Lang Park roof along with the detailing, fabrication and construction of the new roof which sits on top of the iconic Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The complexity of the structure called for many unconventional methods to execute this project. There were many unorthodox methods used to complete this project due to the complexity of the structure. Sun Engineering are very proud to have been involved in the project.

Sun Engineering were awarded the contract to do the detailing and fabrication of the steel crown which is located at the top of the iconic Q1 high-rise resort on the Gold Coast. At the time of construction Q1 was the tallest residential building in the world. It is currently one of the top 10 tallest residential buildings in the world.

In 2006 Sun Engineering and its partners founded Ningbo Zhong Lian Steel Structures Co., Ltd. (NSS) in Ningbo China. NSS supplies quality fabricated structural steel to over 33 countries in the following markets; Power, Mining, Industrial, and amusement parks. Sun Engineering was awarded its first project in Papua New Guinea, The Lihir Island Gold Mine Expansion. The project involved a stock pile expansion, installation of thickeners, new mill and grinding circuit, flotation circuit, oxygen plant and crusher upgrade. Sun Engineering have been successfully completing projects in PNG since and are very proud to be involved in the development of their country.

Sun Engineering was award the contract for the SMPE&I Construction of a 5.5Km Over land Conveyor System and Rail Unloading System at the New Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal Project in Gladstone Queensland. Sun Engineering are proud to have been involved with the project and were awarded the over all Safety Award for the project.
